Yin Yoga with Bri (1)

Yin is a style of yoga comprised of passive postures held for longer periods of time. These long holds allow the muscles to relax so that we can lengthen and stretch the deeper connective tissues. Props are often used and this is a very accessible style of yoga.

About the event
This class is taught once a month (bi-weekly starting September), in person only. Included in unlimited memberships (sign up through class schedule) or by drop-in. Yin is one of Bri's favorite practices to teach. It is a style of yoga comprised of passive postures held for longer periods of time – typically 3 to 7 minutes. These long holds allow the muscles to relax so that we can lengthen and stretch the deeper connective tissues. Props are often used and this is a very accessible style of yoga. Because we are intentionally relaxing the muscles, nearly all poses are seated or lying, supported, and not meant to be particularly strenuous. That does NOT mean the practice is not challenging. Bodily sensations and inner thoughts can be big challenges and yin allows us to gently discover how we respond to discomfort by offering gentle discomforts that we are in control of, so that we can build our inner resilience to carry out into the world. It is up to you, the student, to determine your edge – the edge that is right for you in the moment – and to sit with the sensation of the body, the stillness, and the mind.

🌟 About Your Facilitators

Hi! I’m Bri! I’ve loved yoga since taking my first yoga class as a teenager. Over
time I developed a more personal commitment and connection to the practice as I
learned just what a beneficial impact it can weave into your life well beyond the mat. It
has been my rock through many trials over the past several years, has helped me learn
myself on a deeper level, and has brought the most inspiring, supportive, and
encouraging community of people into my life. For those reasons, I can’t help but want
to spread that love and healing with others.
I’m currently a 500-yr certified yoga instructor. It is so meaningful for me to
introduce people to the depth of the practice of yoga, beyond the postures, to the ways
in which this practice brings you home to yourself, to all the inner nooks and crannies, to
shine healing light into the shadows. In a world that can feel so chaotic, yoga allows us
an opportunity to focus inward and find our inner strength and peace – our inner
compass that guides us through the turbulence of life.
I enjoy many styles of yoga but find a particularly deep connection to guiding
practices in yin, restorative, meditation and breathwork. These slower practices offer
time to slow down, connect with the sensations in our body, and allow the mind to slow
those inner spinning wheels so that we can land in a space of inner calm and peace.
The more we commit to a routine practice of finding this inner place, the more readily
and easily it is available to us as we move through life.
I practice yoga to maintain my own center and balance when life can make things
feel topsy turvy. As we each focus on our own healing and inner calm, finding that inner
light, we become a collective of compassion, peace, and light that spreads to those
around us. I truly believe this is a key way we can do our part to heal the world – by
healing our Self, and shining that healing light outward.
