About the event
This is the launch of our new weekly class, in person only. Included in unlimited memberships (sign up through class schedule) or by drop-in. Yin is a style of yoga comprised of passive postures held for longer periods of time – typically 3 to 7 minutes. These long holds allow the muscles to relax so that we can lengthen and stretch the deeper connective tissues. Props are often used and this is a very accessible style of yoga. Because we are intentionally relaxing the muscles, nearly all poses are seated or lying, supported, and not meant to be particularly strenuous. That does not mean the practice is not challenging. Bodily sensations and inner thoughts can be big challenges, and yin allows us to gently discover how we respond to discomfort by offering gentle discomforts that we are in control of, so that we can build our inner resilience to carry out into the world. It is up to you, the student, to determine your edge – the edge that is right for you in the moment – and to sit with the sensation of the body, the stillness, and the mind.
